Hearing Protection

Hearing protection devices including ear plugs and ear muffs reduce exposure to excessive noise, which can lead to hearing loss. OSHA’s hearing conservation program requires hearing protection when noise exposure equals or exceeds 85 dBA average over an 8-hour workday. Ear plugs and ear muffs must reduce noise to an acceptable level and may require dual use. When using both ear plugs and ear muffs, the device with the highest noise reduction rating receives an additional 5 decibels.
